The Byron Jumper

The Byron Jumper

The Byron Jumper - or ‘Gansey’ jumper - in ‘Burgundy’ takes its name from poet and revolutionary George Gordon Byron, known simply as Lord Byron.

There are many local connections to Lord Byron and in the villages surrounding the Stanley Biggs Studio. His ancestral home being a few miles away at Newstead Abbey and his final resting place in nearby Hucknall.

His reputation was such, that was 145 years after his death that a memorial was finally placed in Poets Corner in St Paul's Cathedral.

Ganseys (or ‘Guernseys’, from which they take their name) are steeped in maritime history, and proved invaluable clothing for sailors and fishermen, being both incredibly warm and quick-drying.

Our ganseys have dropped shoulders and a traditional square stand-up collar.
