Fit & Sizing Guide

Our garments are designed using original vintage patterns from the early 20th century.

Each product page includes its own size chart, which can be opened by clicking the “Size Guide” link near the size selector.

All measurements listed across our product pages are taken from the garment laid flat.

If you are unsure which size to choose, please contact us and we will gladly help.

How To Measure Yourself

For the best fit, measure your body using a soft tape measure.

Chest

Measure around the fullest part of your chest.

Waist

Measure your natural waist, approximately 1 inch above your belly button.

Seat

Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.

Tip

You can also measure a favourite garment laid flat and compare it to the charts.

Fit Styles

Trousers & Denim

Our trousers are based on authentic British tailoring cuts from the early 20th century.

They sit high on the waist and are designed to hang from the natural waistline rather than the hips.

For the most accurate sizing we recommend measuring your body.

You may also want to measure a pair of trousers you already own, but ensure they sit at a similar height on the waist. Low-rise jeans will not provide an accurate comparison.

To measure:

  1. Lay a pair of trousers flat
  2. Measure the waistline
  3. Double the measurement to find the waist size
  4. Lay a pair of trousers flat
  5. Measure the inside leg (crotch to cuff)
  6. Measure the outside leg (waist to cuff)

All Stanley Biggs trousers feature a wide leg silhouette, typically measuring between 11–12 inches at the hem depending on the size. We offer two inside leg lengths (Reg - 32", Long - 34").

Fit advice
If you are between sizes, consider sizing up. It is always easier to take in/up.

Shirts & Rugby Shirts

Our long-sleeve garments fall into two categories: tailored shirts and rugby jerseys, each with a different style of fit.

Shirts

Our shirts follow traditional outfitter sizing and are based on collar measurements.

To determine your size, measure around your neck where the collar sits. Choose the collar size closest to your measurement.

These shirts are designed to provide a comfortable, classic fit suitable for both casual and more formal wear.

All garment measurements listed on product pages are taken from the shirt laid flat.

Rugby Jerseys

Our rugby jerseys are designed as a casual sporting garment and offer a more relaxed fit than our shirts.

They are sized using standard clothing sizes (S, M, L, XL etc.) rather than collar measurements.

Rugby jerseys are intentionally cut slightly looser through the chest and body to allow for comfort and ease of movement.

If you prefer a closer fit, you may wish to size down.

Polos & T-Shirts

Our T-shirts and polos are designed for everyday wear and follow standard sizing (S, M, L, XL etc.).

Measurements shown on the product pages refer to the garment laid flat.

Both styles offer a comfortable vintage-inspired fit.

If you are between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for a more relaxed fit.

Knitwear

Our knitwear is produced using traditional knitting techniques and natural wool fibres. Because each design is based on different historic garments, the fit and proportions may vary between styles.

For this reason, each knitwear product has its own size chart, which can be found on the individual product page.

All measurements shown are taken from the garment laid flat.

Choosing Your Size

Our knitwear is designed to provide a comfortable fit when worn over a shirt or T-shirt.

If you prefer a closer fit, you may wish to size down. For a more relaxed or layered fit, choose your usual size.

Natural Fibre Note

Wool is a natural fibre and will soften with wear. Minor variation between garments can occur due to the nature of the knitting process.

Footwear

Our footwear follows standard UK sizing.

If you normally wear a UK size 5, 6, 7 etc., we recommend selecting the same size when ordering.

Most styles follow traditional British footwear sizing and are designed to offer a comfortable fit with everyday socks.

If you are between sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size.

Leather footwear will naturally soften and adapt slightly to the shape of your foot with wear.

Jackets & Outerwear

Our jackets follow traditional tailoring measurements and are sized according to chest size.

To determine your size, measure around the fullest part of your chest while wearing a light shirt. You will need to measure your natural waist also for our cropped jacket designs.

For example, if your chest measures 40 inches, we recommend a size 40 jacket.

Stanley Biggs jackets are designed to allow comfortable layering over shirts, knitwear or light jackets depending on the season.

All garment measurements listed on product pages are taken from the jacket laid flat.

If you are between sizes or plan to wear heavier knitwear underneath, we recommend choosing the larger size.
