The Arkwright Henley is based directly on an early 20th-century garment, retaining the practical details that made the original such a useful first layer.
Made in England from 9oz heavyweight organic cotton jersey, it has a soft feel with enough substance to wear on its own. Knitted jersey sleeves and a calico cotton button placket reflect the construction of the original, while English-made corozo buttons provide the finishing touch.
Henleys were traditionally worn beneath outer garments to add warmth and help keep them clean. The Arkwright works just as well today under a shirt or jumper, or worn on its own with a pair of our trousers or jeans.

The story behind the name
The Arkwright is named after Richard Arkwright, whose cotton mill at Cromford helped transform the way textiles were made. In 1771, he built a mill there that used water power to spin cotton on a new scale. We chose his name for a garment rooted in the history of practical cotton clothing.
